"Melting Ice, Unveiling Truth – It's Time for Us to Act.“

The SURFACE〉 interprets the melting ice surfaces caused by climate change through the format of circus performance, making the seriousness of climate change and crisis more accessible.

The performers focus on the continuously melting ice and the water generated from it, presenting a contemporary circus-style performance that reflects the passage of time. The word "SURFACE" not only means "surface" but also conveys the idea of "hidden things being revealed." Moving away from classical circus forms, it provides an opportunity to witness various forms of ice surfaces directly. It is time to break the silence on climate issues and take collective action, as we are all interconnected.

‘ Green Cow ’ consistently presents contemporary works that reflect the characteristics of street art and circus through approaches that transcend the boundaries of space and genre, effectively conveying the seriousness of the climate crisis. Additionally, they conduct in-depth research to ensure that audiences develop a profound understanding and awareness of climate issues, leading to tangible changes in their daily behaviors. They continuously ponder the role and responsibility of contemporary art, exploring artistic approaches that not only use climate as a mere subject but also raise awareness of the climate crisis and encourage action to drive social change. They aim to expand their projects under the theme of "the organic fusion of art for practical responses to climate change, and effective artistic expression through the use of stage, street, and public spaces."

The artistic director of Green Cow, Sungtaek-JEONG, completed training programs for street art and circus specialists at the Seoul Street Art Creation Center before founding the group Green Cow. He actively engages in street (outdoor) performances beyond traditional stages. Drawing on the genre-specific characteristics of street art and modern circus, he utilizes various objects, structures, and spaces to present a new perspective on theatrical stages. Currently, he is focused on exploring the intersections of art, climate, daily life, and the body, dedicating himself to the study of 'collective movement,' while continuously emphasizing the message that climate change and crises require a collective response from all of us.
